A year after the 9/11 terrorist attacks, young journalist Claude Baechtold finds himself in the Afghan war zone. The Swiss anti-militarist meets two intrepid reporters who, against his better judgement, take him on a whirlwind tour of the country. Armed with a video camera bought at the bazaar in Kabul, he follows them on a risky two-month journey.
Claude Baechtold
Claude Baechtold graduated in visual communications from the École cantonale d'art de Lausanne (ECAL) in 1996, and founded the Riverboom collective in 2002. Following a period in Afghanistan, he published a series of offbeat travel diaries. His innovative approach to photography has made him one of the leading figures in new reportage, winning the 2006 Vevey Images Grand Prix and being nominated for the Prix Élysée in 2018. He is now an investigative journalist and filmmaker. Riverboom is his first feature film.
