1995 Fiction 1h18
Between the darkness of a small cinema hall and the blindingly fascinating projectors, between an old university professor and a man with no past, a young girl flaunts her disturbing beauty. However her itinerary is not geographic. Its development goes on outside all limits, in an unreal space flooded with light. A place where recognizable figures are present, such as the ghost of Marlene Dietrich, the Pasolinian angel or the goog Dr Caligari, a place, filled above all, with the words of Cocteau "the cinema is filming death at work". For his first film Salayev has chosen to pay a fairly desperated homage to cinema, which possess the grace and gravity of a love poem. With "Yarasa" he offers us a cinema of burial, but in the form of prophecy. A pure, biting prophecy, like the evidence of light.
