Tim Trachte was born in Munich in 1976. After studying dramatic art in Germany and film in New York, he entered the Hochschule für Film und Fernsehen de Munich in 2002. He made several video clips (notably for the group Pelzig) and short films before making Mittwoch, his graduation film, in June 2003
