Voyage à travers le cinéma français
Bertrand Tavernier

This work of a citizen and a spy, an explorer and a painter, a chronicler and an adventurer who have told so well so many authors from Casanova to Gilles Perrault, isn't this a wonderful definition of a filmmaker that could be applied to Renoir, Becker, the Vigo of L'Atalante, Duvivier, or Truffaut or Demy. To Max Ophuls and also to Bresson. And to less well-known directors, Grangier, Gréville or Sacha, who, in a scene, or a film, illuminate an emotion, flushing out surprising truths. I would like this film to be an act of gratitude towards those, filmmakers, scriptwriters, actors and musicinas who have burst into my life. The memory warms up: this film is a piece of coal for the winter nights.
