Under The Skin
Carine Adler

At her mother's death, Iris is faced with terrifing empties. Her sister Rose, of whom she has always been jealous, is of no help to her. Their conflictual relationship only eightens their feeling of loneliness. Lost, Iris desperately looks for some form of compensation in unbridled sex with passing lovers, which lead her to self-destruction. She loses her job, her will to live and even the urn containing her mother's ashes. However it is during this relentless pursuit that she becomes capable of dealing with her grief and can make a fresh start.Carine Adler up with the idea for this film whilst making her short "Fever", which explored the difficult relationship between mother and daughter. Using specialised books (especially "Mother, Madonna, Whore" by Dr Estela Welldon) she wanted to learn how compulsive sexual behaviour can be generated by emotional suffering.
