Kira Kovalenko was born in December 1989. She joined Alexander Sokourov's directing workshop in Nalchik in 2010. During her studies she made several short films. Her first feature, Sofitchka, a film adaptation of the novel of the same name by Fazil Iskander, was released in 2016. Unclenching the Fists is her second feature.
