During his time at the fémis, where he graduated in production, Guillaume Bracdirected three short films. On leaving, he worked as an assistant director, notably on Arnaud de Pallières'Parcand Emmanuel Mouret'sUn baisers'ilvousplaît. In 2008 he co-founded AnnéeZéro,with which he directed and producedLe Naufragéin2009, thenUn monde sans femmesin 2011, both of which were screened at Festival Premiers Plans d'Angers. In 2012, these two films, joined into one single programme, were released in France, Belgium and Japan. In 2013 Guillaume Bracdirected his first feature, Tonnerre."This passionate story is in part autobiographical, but I was not interested in just telling a naturalistic chronicle. This made me want to fantasise on what could have happened, pushing back even further the boundaries of reality. Very soon, I wanted to start mixing genres. With this romantic comedy slipping towards drama and the film noir, I felt that I could invent my own cinematographic territory, try something risky, but which totally belonged to me. Now the unstable balance between the light-hearted and the serious, between carefreeness and violence, going as far as blurring the audience's emotional references, was the big challenge of the film, from the shoot to the edit".
