Cao Zi's mother is getting married to Zhu Laosan, a "nouveau riche". Cao Zi has no money but wants to give his mother a gold necklace to keep up appearances. With his friends Jiuji and Houdi he decides to steal goods from Zhu Laosan. They take a taxi driver hostage, they extort money from passers-by and steal a child's horn. After being mocked by Zhu Laosan, Cao Zi decides, along with Zhu Laosan's daughter Zhu Xia, to boycott the marriage and go and play tag. Finally, Zhu Xia dies.
