In a small Kyrgyzstan village, teenage Begaim waits for her husband to return. He left her immediately after their marriage to work illegally in Russia. While he stills sends money, he has stopped phoning Begaim. She is heavily pregnant, and lives with his grandmother, Napisa, who treats her as a servant. One day she hears that her husband has another family in Russia...

Aygul Bakanova grew up in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. She earned her BA in International Journalism from the local university in 2004. While at university Aygul became interested in documentaries and television production, and continued her education in Moscow, specialising in scriptwriting and creative producing for TV.After 4 years of television experience in Moscow, as a journalist and scriptwriter, Aygul started the MA Filmmaking course at the London Film School. She specialized in writing/directing. She wrote, directed and co-produced Jamgyr, which is her graduation project.
