After The Knockout, produced by Keystone in 1914, this comedy confirmed Chaplin's interest in boxing. In 1915, boxing was illegal in most American states, and films showing fights (including comedy films) were in constant demand. Chaplin fully developed the idea of his character tramp with a dog in 1918 with A Dog's Life, and the hectic, irresistible choreography of the match foreshadowed the famous boxing fight in City Lights.
