Brigitte Sy started her career as an actress in 1979 in La Dérobade by Daniel Duval. She worked on continuity on Elle a passé tant d'heures sous les sunlights by Philippe Garrel, becoming Garrel's muse and acting notably in Liberté la nuit, Les Baisers de secours, J'entends plus la guitare, Les Amants réguliers. She also worked under the direction of Alain Raoust (L'Eté indien), Rachid Hami (Choisir d'aimer) or Pierre Schöller (Versailles), L'Endroit idéal is his first film as a director.
