Savina went to Belgium's Institut des Arts de Diffusion in Louvain-la-Neuve straight out of high school in 1994 and graduated with honors in 1998. Her graduation film On/Off won the Grand Jury Prize at the Brussels Festival of Independent Films in 1998. Savina worked at various TV production companies in Brussels as first assistant director before going to study at NFTS in London. Strange Little Girls is her first short film since leaving school.
