Joseph Pierce started his career in film at 17 as a key member of an independent film and theatre company based in the East of England. Whilst there he worked creatively with such groups as young offenders, children with learning difficulties and young people in care. He gained experience in a range of roles, from leading acting workshops, to production design and sound recording. Intrigued by contemporary art and non-mainstream cinema, he took a degree in experimental film, where he first discovered animation and the joys of making inanimate objects move. He exhibited in galleries in and around London, and in international festivals. Drawn to the NFTS, he has widened his techniques to include illustrative, drawn animation and performance-led work.
