After her studies, first at the University of Pennsylvania in the United States, next at Edinburgh University in Scotland, Emily Young left London in 1993 for the Directing department of the PWSFT in Lodz, Poland. Second Hand, a PWSFT and NFTS co-production, is her first English-language film. She has directed numerous short fiction films and documentaries, and is currently filming God, a film about a deaf-mute sculptor living in eastern Poland.
