If man did not exist, plant life would cover almost the entire globe. But man appeared and with him the city, an ecosystem isolated from the natural world: a universe where vegetation, with the exception of a few strictly designated areas, has no place. Man's victory over the plant world would seem a foregone conclusion...but can we be certain?

Yann Marquis was born in 1978. He studied chemistry and physics at the University of Poitiers and photography at the Beaux-Arts before going on to study directing and cinematography in the film department at the University of Provence in 2000. He was founding member of the Terra Incognita collective and made several documentary essays. In September 2003, he was one of fifteen laureates of the European project "Le Réel en chantier" with his project Sauvages dans la Ville.
