The series Animanimals, from which Salamandre is taken, shows strange encounters which, with their often hilarious punchlines, make us both laugh and think about our own little problems. The soundscape contributes to the humour of these films: dialogue-free, onomatopoeic, and musical it accompanies the joyous misadventures of the characters throughout. The framing, the play of the shadows and the colours, and also what goes on off screen, build and deconstruct the place where the characters meet and the comedy is played out. But beyond laughter, these little stories, finally make us think about our own human problems. A sort of moral emerges and turns these short films into modern fables. However, the moral is always impertinent: “you always need someone dirtier than yourself” could be one of them! This amusing series will make audiences both old and young laugh and reflect.
