2054. In a labyrinthine Paris where every movement is monitored and filmed, Ilona Tasuiev, a young scientist, is kidnapped. Avalon, Ilona's employer, puts pressure on Karas, a controversial police kidnap specialist, to find the victim as soon as possible. Karas soon feels he is not the only on looking for Ilona and the pursuers seem ready for anything to get to her before him. It was in 1998 that the idea for Renaissance, or rather the idea for the visual aspect of Renaissance, came to Marc Miance. "Everything began with a test presented at Imagina 98. The previous year Olivier Renouard, who I worked with regularly, had shown me a fixed black and white 3D image. This image was the trigger which brought the missing element to what I wanted to do: give movement to a totally pure style, and contrast it with extremely realistic animation, close to a classic live action film.
