Damien Tran is a French self-taught musician and artist. His work is based around painting, printing techniques (screen-printing, photocopying, risography), animated film and experimental music. He is a co-founder with Marion Jdanoff of the duo Palefroi with Marion Jdanoff, a screen-printing workshop, with a publishing arm and a collaborative artistic project.
Poum Poum ! is in the same vein as the “cameraless films” made by Len Lye and Norman McLaren in the 1930s and 40s. This film attempts to reconnect with their spirit of naïve, funny and playful experimentation on both the visual and musical levels. It shows abstract drawings in movement. Lines, circles, splotches, and scribbles respond to primary musical intentions: banging on percussion instruments, having fun, making noise, and partying. Poum Poum ! is a film which talks about artistic creation as a simple, impulsive, and communicative act.
