A young man looks at himself in the mirror: him and his camera. Not long afterwards, the same young man sitting on the edge of the toilet tries to focus on the camera at his feet. In the streets there is a procession of monks and nuns. Other friends come into the bathroom, they talk about their personal problems. They talk without listening. Pâté de bourgeois. "It was a play on words between pâté de foie gras and épater le bourgeois (astound the bourgeois), this is how Moretti gives the general tone of the film. Filmed almost simultaneously Pâté de bourgeois and La Sconffita are similar in many ways. Moretti enjoys himself, playing with the classic codes of cinema sometimes provoking laughter, sometimes emotion. The use of the photo-romance as a narrative process makes it possible to create a distance between what the director puts on the screen and what it really means. The spectator does not buy into the drama being played out between the two lovers because Moretti breaks with the traditional pact of transparency in cinema. At the same time director, actor and commentator on his own film, Moretti goes from one role to another as he links the sequences, i.e. in total freedom.
