Határontúl is about the lives of refugees portrayed across three symbolic short stories: a fugitive's endless flight, a cruel scene of a poor man meeting someone even poorer, and a parody about humanitarian aid from the West.

Árpád Schilling was born in 1974 in Hungary. He studied directing at the College of Dramatic and Cinematic Arts in Budapest. In 1994, at the age of twenty, he created the independent theatre company Színház Krétakör (Chalk Circle Company). He gained international recognition in the theatre world for his unorthodox staging of Bertolt Brecht's Baal. He went on to direct several plays including a trilogy comprised of Woyzeck, Léonce and Léna and Hazám, Hazám (Oh Cry, my Homeland) based on Georg Büchner's Danton's Death. His short film Határontúl was screened at the Venice Film Festival in 2004
