A forgotten Russian village in the middle of no-where, with no electricity, a population of old women living simple, ordinary lives and only one man, who suffers from Down's syndrome. One day, a family of refugees from Central Asia comes to settle in the village. They are not welcome.....

Actor, producer, director, Gennady Sidorov was born in 1962 in Frounze (now known as Bichkek). In 1986 he completed his training as an actor at VGIK (with S.G. Guerassimov and de T. Makarova), then in 1990 that of director (with P. Todorovski). During this year he made the film La Nuit. Since 1995, Gennady Sidorov is the President of the Foundation for the regional support of cinematographic works. Starukhi is his first feature film.
