Occidental
Neïl Beloufa

In a world in crisis with blurred ideologies and unhealthy questions of identity, where things only seem to give us a choice between CCTV and the gods. At the Hotel Occidental, everyone lies. When compulsive liar Antonio wants to spends a night in the bridal suite with his so-called lover Giorgio, Diana, the hotel manager, goes on crusade to show they are going to commit a crime, calling in the police without having any proof of their guilt. All the characters will try to turn the plot to their own personal interests, making a hidden love story into judging people by appearances, or homophobia, or even a threat of terrorism.

“Occidental is NeIl Beloufa's first fiction film. Although he is an internationally recognised artist, he wanted to experience a certain danger by going outside the field of contemporary art. The project of this film has been in the back of his mind since he was a student. It is both ambitious (a tribute to Nicholas Ray's Johnny Guitar) and difficult to treat (judging by appearances), and it was only in 2015 that the conditions converged to make the film, transforming with determination and energy his artist's studio in Villejuif into a genuine film set.”
