Dom Rotheroe studied photography, film and video at Harrow College in London. He then went to Bosnia, where he directed the video documentary A Sarajevo Diary in 1993. This film won him a Bafta nomination and allowed him to continue to direct other documentaries, this time on the war in Timor and about the street-children of Rio de Janeiro, entitled Shadows on the street. My Brother Tom is his first feature-length film.
