Leyla Bouzid was born and raised in Tunis where she was a regular member of the local cinema club. After gaining her baccalauréat, she left for Paris to study French literature. She worked as an assistant director in different projects and co-directed her first short movie "Sbeh el Khir" in 2006. She graduated from La fémis in film directing in June 2011. Mkhobbi fi Kobba (Soubresauts) is her graduation film.
