Born in 1980 in Gand, Julie de Clercq made La Vie en rose as part of her studies at the RITS Art School. This film was awarded the first prize at the 2002 Courtisane film festival in Gand. Before making Mayra, her graduation film, she shot another short film Merzanga on Super 8.
