Redouane, an Algerian journalist and writer living in Europe, decides to return to his native country to write about several suicides caused by the mass redundancies of workers during the 1990s. In Bejaia he lives in a small bedsit belonging to his sister Latifa, her husband Mokrane (unemployed) and their son Meziane. He lives the depressing life of his brother-in-law who ends up committing suicide. Overwhelmed and powerless, Redouane abandons his project of writing a book on a subject which has become very painful for him.
