“The story is inspired by my life as an immigrant to the United States. I absolutely wanted to make a film about a Romanian woman trying to find her way in America, because it was something I knew well, particularly from the emotional point of view. A theme that I am very interested in is the feeling of precarity. Mara is plunged deep into a provisional situation which is both vulnerable and dangerous. She makes choices and takes risks without always knowing the consequences”. (Ioana Uricaru)
