Né en 1955, Olivier Lorelle a étudié la philosophie et soutenu une thèse sur la dramaturgie. Il a écrit des pièces de théâtre, joué quelques rôles, et travaillé sur l'improvisation. Il a ensuite enseigné la philosophie, puis est devenu scénariste, en particulier de Vivre au paradis de Bourdem Guerdjou en 1997 et de Little Senegal de Rachid Bourchareb en 2001. La Vase est sa toute première réalisation.
