Born in Bolzano, Italy, in 1971, Tizza Covi lived in Paris and Berlin before studying photography at the Graphische Lehranstalt in Vienna. At the end of her studies she went to Rome where she worked as an independent photographer. She won many grants for her photographic work. Born in Vienna, Austria, in 1971, Rainer Frimmel is a photographic graduate of the Graphische Lehranstalt in Vienna. He has had grants for his photographic work in Rome, Paris and New York. Tizza Covi and Rainer Frimmel founded their film production company, Vento Film, in 2002, to produce their own films independently. Together they have made two documentaries: That's All in 2001 and Babooska in 2005. La Pivellina is their first fiction film. "I wrote a script based on situations experienced by the people in this film and that we knew already. And it is true that many children of Asia's age, and even newborns, are abandoned. It is something that is still in the headlines. The story had a very clear beginning and end, but the dialogues were not written. One hour before we began shooting, we went to talk to Patty, Tairo and Walter, to tell them the types of scenes we had planned and what things should be in their conversations. But the way in which they formulated their lines and the order in which they were said depended totally on the actors", Tizza Covi.
