"It's everyday science fiction that interests me. I wanted to go against the grain of Star Wars or Close Encounters of the Third. If the idea upon which my film is based classifies my film as science fiction, I especially wanted to create a sense of strangeness within a Victorian setting. I've always liked voice-overs. And I liked the idea of telling a story about someone who is himself filming a story...The film thus recalls a present we never see. (Bertrand Tavernier)
