"Generally, political films don't interest me. Objectively, I can see the interest of them, but I'm not interested in making them, I feel it is not my field". A film made simply to make money, and that Buñuel actually disowned, La Fièvre monte à El Pao (Fever Mounts in El Pao) works efficiently while remaining impersonal. Buñuel's second co-production, La Fièvre monte à El Pao is more in line with his classic films, rather than the more audacious films of his French period. Despite everything, the films shows a Gérard Philipe cast against type, filled with a Buñuelian imagination theoretically very far from the actor. It was also the last film Philipe made, dying soon after the end of the shoot, and Buñuel regretted that this was the only role he had given him.
