Abdel Kechiche has held roles in numerous plays since 1978. In 1981, he directs and plays the principal role in L'architecte et l'Emereur d'Assyrie, by Fernando Arrabal. Onscreen, Kechiche has notably been seen in Le thé à la menthe, by Abdelkrim Bahloul, Les Innocents, by André Techiné, and Bezness, by Nouri Bouzid, for which he won acting awards in Namur in 1992 and Damas in 1993. Kechiche also devotes himself to screenplay writing, authoring La faute à Voltaire which has received an advance on ticket sales from the CNC. It is his first film.
