Gabriel, the young Turk, Bobby the Serb, Costa the Greek. These three men used to be in a gang together in Hamburg, but everything changes up when Gabriel leaves prison. He decides to live a normal life. He finds a job as a taxi driver, to the complete dismay of his two mates. Costa keeps his head above water by a spot of thieving and Bobby dreams about a career in the local mafia. Despite his girlfriend Alice's resistance and Gabriel's warnings, Bobby contacts the Albanian godfather, Muhamer. At the same time, Gabriel and Alice, aware of their guilt and swept along by passion, fall in love with each other without Bobby's knowledge. Meanwhile Bobby decides to do his first big "job" for Muhamer and hires Gabriel as get-a-way man. The job is going to turn sour.

Fatih Akin was born in 1973 in Hamburg, of a Turkish family. In 1994 he began his studies at the Hamburger Hochschule für Bildende Künste and played several roles for television and cinema. In 1995, he made his first short film called Sensin-Du Bist Es!, followed by Getürkt in 1996, which was widely acclaimed at the Montreal and Locarno festivals, as well as winning awards at the Lünen and Chicago festivals. Kurz und schmerzlos is his first feature film.
