How to Order Online

French prisons forbid any direct exchanges between inmates. So they have contrived as a result a series of instruments to transport objects and messages throughout the prison. These are called yo-yos, the mechanical equivalent of the internet, enabling them to “order online”.

Julie Ramage, born in France in 1987, is a visual artist and researcher at the CERILAC laboratory of the University of Paris. She explores the complex relationships woven between human communities and the places they occupy. Her work has been presented in France in leading cultural institutions (Centre Pompidou, Musée de l'Homme, Chapelle des Beaux-Arts de Paris), and also the United States, Argentina, the United Kingdom, Spain and Germany.
