Malgorzata Szumowska was born in Cracow, in Poland. For two years, she studied history at the Jagiellonian University, and then entered in the Directing Department of the Lodz Film School. Silence, a film made during her studies is considered to be one of the best films ever made at the Lodz Film School and won an award in Angers in 1999. Wniebowstapienie, her graduation film is selected this year in the European film school selection of the festival of Angers.
