Mohamed Bourouissa
A young man sits in a car with his girlfriend. Two policemen in an unmarked car pull up to carry out a routine identity check. They invite him out and proceed methodically to a pat-down, as he stands in front of the car, under the dismayed eyes of his girlfriend.

Mohamed Bourouissa was born in 1978. He graduated from the Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne in 2004, and from the École nationale supérieure des arts décoratifs, specialising in photography. With a critical eye on media images, the subjects of his photographs and videos are people left behind at the crossroads of integration and exclusion. Contrary to falsely simplistic media constructions, the artist reintroduces complexity into the representation of the margins of hypervisibility. His work has been the subject of numerous solo exhibitions.
