Jonas Geirnaert was born in 1982. Flatlife is his graduation film from KASK – Hogeschool in Gand. His first short film, The All-American Alphabet (2002), won the Best Short Film award at the Evora International Short Film Festival (FIKE) in 2003. Flatlife was awarded the short film Grand Jury Prize at the 2004 Cannes Film Festival. Jonas Geirnaert is also part of the Belgium actors' group "Neveneffecten" as well as an improv theatre group "The Luatics".
