Faute de soleil
Christophe Blanc

A blind man meets a striptease artist : this could be the answer to a bad joke such as "what's the epitome of impossible love ?". However, "Faute de soleil" is not a bad joke and it openly faces up to this story between Jean, the man with no sight, and Lucie, the woman who is there as a sight for others. The love which unites these two people cannot survive with the inevitable passages of a romantic comedy. Here, love posseses the cruelty of authentic feelings, it bears the wounds of a hard life. Those who jump into the void are not accountable to those who watch them fall. Jean and Lucie are alone as they cope with a life which grinds them down. Alone, their only guide something which, despite everything, appears to be the happiness of being together. With a violence which is rare in French cinema, Christophe Blanc shakes up genres, actors and spectators alike. No-one cannot come out of this sensitive and honest film untouched.
