Algiers, 1998. In the middle of a terrorist conflict, Fatima, aged 65, lives alone and isolated in a district torn apart by domestic violence and bloody politically-motivated attacks. She doesn't seem to want to take sides but this apparent indifference hides a secret.

Karim Bensalah was born in 1976 in Algiers. After undertaking preparatory studies for the Ecole normale supérieure at the Stanislas secondary school in Paris, he continued his studies with a DEUG (first degree) in Economics followed by a Licence (B.A.) in Sociology before heading to London, where he specialised in film direction and editing at the London International Film School. Successively cameraman, chief operator and then editor on different films, in 2003 he made Fatima's Secret: his first short fiction film which won the prize of the Fondation Beaumarchais and the Year of Algeria's Label de.
