With the aura of the critical success of his first film, Moretti put to one side his super8 and obtained more comfortable facilities to shoot Ecce Bombo. He was nevertheless faithful to his group of friends and chose to film in familiar places, in this case his parents' house. "I remember that a sort of breach appeared. On one side there was the core of non-professional actors, my friends and me, and on the other there was the crew, experienced people with professional training". (N. Moretti) Ecce Bombo is one of the films which contributed at the time to the return to direct sound in Italy, use of which here strengthens the very free performance of the actors. Despite the opinion of producers who disagreed with this choice of sound and considered that the script was no "commercial", Ecce Bombo was a success in Italy. "Many spectators identified with the story and with the characters." (N. Moretti)
