Philippe Mach was born in Lausanne in 1970. He studied literature at the University of Geneva and directed short films on video while attending the courses given by Freddy Buache at the Swiss Cinematheque. He began studying at the ECAL in 1998, directing Feu d'ombres (1999) and Duel (2000).
