Der Olympishe Sommer
Gordian Maugg

In the summer of 1936, an apprentice butcher leaves his native Pomerania to attend the Olympic Games in Berlin, capital of the Third Reich. He meets a young widow who kindles love in him. But before long, History becomes hell bent on destroying their ardent passion. The lyricism of innocent happiness is replaced by brutality, bitterness and the merciless, appaling experience of war. The use of Askania-1931 camera, the interweaving of archive footage and fiction and the narrative voice of Otto Sander using original radio broadcasting equipment makes this first feature an exploration of film language.
