Maryna Vroda was born on 22 February 1982 in Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine. In 2007, she graduated from the Cinematography and TV Faculty of the Kyiv National University of Theatre, Cinematography and Television named after Karpenko‐Karyy, with a specialisation in feature film direction. She attended Mikhail Ilenko's and Valery Sivak's workshops. After graduating, she went on to work with Sergei Loznitsa. Cross received the short film Palme d'or at the 64th Cannes Film Festival.
