Come parli frate ?
Nanni Moretti

A parody of I promessi sposi. Don Abbondio, the village priest, is walking in the countryside and crosses the lords. The subject of the discussion is the marriage between Renzo Tramaglino and Lucia Mondella, which must not take place. The only person on the side of the two young people is Fra Cristoforo, a brother in a tunic who sings the songs of the time and quotes Mao. The clergyman confronts the elders and Don Rodrigo, the lord of the region, who seems accommodating and does not want to offend Lucia...

"In Come parli frate?, there is an attempt to appropriate the rigour I liked in other people's films, probably resulting in rigidity rather than rigour. As much for the directing as for the fixed camera. It was a question of controlling the directing, of feeling around less. I was trying to "make a step up in quality" in relation to the two previous shorts. Of all my films it is the one where the mark of my autobiography is the most cryptic. But it is nevertheless there." (Nanni Moretti)
