Lukas Dhont is a graduate of the Faculty of Arts at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts (KASK) in Ghent. His short films, Corps perdu (Headlong) (2012) and L'Infini (2014) were selected and won awards at numerous festivals, including the Ghent International Film Festival and the Leuven International Short Film Festival, qualifying L'Infini for the 2015 Oscar selection. During his studies, he not only focused on fiction, but also explored the possibilities of documentary. His short documentary Skin of Glass (2012) was part of the Your Film Festival selection at the Venice Film Festival in 2012. In addition to short films, Lukas Dhont has directed several music videos, in which he displays his cinematic style and his strong interest in themes pertaining to youth. His first feature film, Girl, brings together themes he has already explored: dance, transformation and identity. Selected for Cannes Critics’ Week in 2018, Girl won 4 awards: the Caméra d’or, the acting award for Victor Polster, the Queer Palm and the Fipresci International Critics’ Prize. The script for Girl was developed at the Ateliers d’Angers in 2016. Close (2022), his second feature, won the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival.
