South of Beijing. Motorbike-taxi driver Lao Li's family lives in an old courtyard. As well as being a motorbike-taxi driver Lao Li is a procurer of prostitutes. His son Xiao Kai, considered as a problem child, feels abandoned. On an impulse he gets a brick and hits his teacher. He is expelled from school. To atone for his son's fault, Loa Li offers the teacher a bribe.
Yu Liu was born in Beijing in 1981. He graduated from the Beijing Academy of Dramatic Art. He has worked as a scriptwriter and director of programmes for Chinese television. Blinding Sunlight is his first feature.
