Born in 1976 in Nghe An (Viet Nam), Phan Dang Di started his career as an independent filmmaker after graduating from Hanoi University of Cinema and Theatre. He is currently reaching screen-writing at Hanoi National University. He is part of the new wave of filmmakers in Vietnam. I strained myself to avoid any dramatic element, I neither wanted my character to face an ordeal they had to overcome nor to explain their psychological progression. I did not care very much about chronological order. What I wanted to create are realistic sensations but hard to explain. Human relationships mixed with events that occur to each one. [...] The three masculine characters in the movie (Bi, his father, his grandfather) are in fact only one man at different stages of his life. Their common point is their need for women. They need their care, their protection, their love, to be exhausted by them.
