Beshkempir
Aktan Abdykalykov

Aktan Abdykalykov's inspiration comes from an ancestral custom which still exists in Kirghizstan. The population offers a weaned baby to a couple if the wife is found to be sterileS Beshkempir is, so it seems, a child just like any other, living a peaceful life, punctuated by games of his age. On the threshold of adolescence, Beshkempir feels his first emotions. He feels his first romantic, yet discreet feelings for his neighbour's daughter. He leads a peaceful life until he hears the terrible news that puts an end to his ordinary happiness. Beshkempir learns from his friends that he is not his parent's 3biological2 son. In a single moment, his best friend becomes his rival, an enemy even, and the girl of his dreams turns her back on him. This painful discovery is a real shock and his life becomes a living nightmare. Against all hope and step by step, he will try to overcome the difficulties created by this new situation.Aktan Abdykalykov's first feature film, is the very first independent film made and produced in Kirghizstan in central Asia, a former republic of the Soviet Union. Kirghizstan gained independence in 1991.
