As their respective scripts advance, and in contact with the wild landscapes of the island, the border between reality and fiction becomes blurred.

“In Bergman Island there are many ghosts that come to greet us. First there is the ghost of Ingmar Bergman, since the couple who are “in residence” on the island of Fårö, off the coast of Sweden, are living in the Swedish director's house (which has become a foundation), in the natural surroundings of some of his masterpieces. (…) One of the questions of the film is simultaneously simple, funny, crazy and irrational: can you sleep in the beds of the characters of Scenes from a Marriage? Isn't it dangerous? (…) The films are also ghosts. The couple has come to write, but their relationship to film, to writing itself, is not the same … From the superb opening cinemascope shots to the final magical images of the film you are gripped by the beauty and elegance of Mia Hansen-Løve's styles. It needs to be put down in writing: at barely fourty, Mia Hansen-Løve is one of the leading filmmakers alive today”. (Jean-Baptiste Morain; Les Inrockuptibles)
