Veiko Õunpuu was born in 1972 in Saaremaa. He has been a worker, an unsuccessful salesman of floormaterials, once almost a political refugee. He has studied painting in the Estonian Academy of arts. His first film, a short feature Tühirand, won all the prices in Estonia in 2006, and was selected in the official competition of Premiers Plans Festival in 2007. Sügisball is his first long feature and was premiered in Venice International Film Festival. He is currently working on a new project, Püha tônu kiu (The Temptation of St. tony)
